As you may have now, today is the first edition of ‘Kontan’ newspaper. The name is not new, Kontan is well known as economic and business tabloid published by Kompas Media Group subsidiary. They keep the tabloid though. So welcome to the club of economic and business newspaper, together with Investor Daily, Neraca and of course Bisnis Indonesia.
Its too bad Kontan didn’t have Information Technology section, though there is news about telecommunication. They have Electronics section but mostly covers consumer electronics. In the wake of IT transformation from cost center to profit center, from merely supporting roles to strategic roles, business newspaper should allocate page for IT issues.
Yes, there ‘s already a lot of IT publications in many forms in Indonesia. But unfortunately, most of them talks about gadgets. Its rare to find IT publication that covers business systems, talks about business benefit from implementing IT, and I think thats where business newspaper has a role.
